Behave, Believe, Become -- Or Not! is an educational/interactive workshop for former members of High Demand Groups (including those born and raised) available in a secure, HIPPA-compliant online format via Zoom. It is not a therapy group. Elements of coercive control (see section on coercive influence and control) can be found in any group, organization, family or relationship. Members who are affected may experience a gradual weakening of their basic sense of self, self-autonomy, personal rights, and self-esteem in the abusive environment. Dominant partners/leaders with Narcissistic/Antisocial or sociopathic traits find vulnerabilities and exploit personal strengths in their "targets" so they can manipulate through a variety of tactics, for their own gain. With coercive influence, psychological abuse always occurs and, in some cases, physical, sexual, and financial abuse as well.
Education of one's experience is primary to recovery, as is gaining validation, acknowledgement, and mutual support from others who understand. Each workshop participant is respected for what he/she brings to the workshop. We also present successful tools or skills that others have found helpful. To ensure safety and to design workshops to individual needs, participants are someone with whom I’ve worked, individually, in family, couple, or group sessions so I can gain an understanding of their history, needs, and goals. If I haven not worked with an interested participant, I request an individual consultation prior to participation in the workshop and together we consider if the workshop seems to be a preferred option.
A committed participation is not requested for the workshop, but participants state that connecting with others with whom they’ve already met and interacted is extremely helpful and mutually supportive. With the online workshop, participants often remark that they feel as though they are in the same room together and that they are part of a "team" that helps them with their individual healing and growth. The workshop is offered on Saturdays, 9:00 - 10:30 AM PT. Fee is $45.00 paid via PayPal on my homepage. The 60-minute individual consultation is $80.00 - $100.00 based on individual circumstance.
"These workshops are really helpful to me in understanding and processing my experiences in a cult." -- Workshop Participant

Stepping over the threshold into this increasingly popular format for workshops or trainings via Zoom (Hipaa-compliant) is exciting and effective, reaching people where specific support may not be locally available. It is also a cost and time-effective choice.
I am deeply touched by the mutual support, compassion, motivation, wisdom, and honesty participants express. I value each workshop session and learn from others!
If you decide to participate, you will need a video camera for you PC. Some participants use their IPhones. I email directions and informed consent forms prior to the workshop for your review. Downloading Zoom is easy and free, as are the steps for participation.
